The thing nobody mentions
All five seats are worth the same 20 points
The game does not add raw weights together. It measures each appointment's fit relative to that seat's own range, then averages the five. A Politician President scores 100% of the President seat; a Dictator Vice President scores 100% of the VP seat. The fact that one raw number is 58 and the other is 40 changes nothing.
So the common advice to "protect the General and Treasurer because they punish mistakes hardest" is backwards reasoning. Those seats only bite harder because Poets and Taboo Stars carry an extra explicit penalty there — not because the seats are weighted more.
